He is the head of his family and the only person who should support the 8 members family and provide them with food and other necessities.

He added: I am a poor person responsible for providing food, clothes, medicine and other needs of my family. considering the mountainous context of our region with no job opportunities and no agricultural land it is very difficult and challenging for me to provide sufficient food for my family”

During the need assessment and beneficiary selection period he was selected as beneficiary based on beneficiary selection committee (BSC) recommendation as he was found shock affect and the most vulnerable person in his community.

Mr. Wahab received three rounds of in-kind food assistance via OCHR/AHF emergency winterization project. According to him the provision of in-kind food assistance was very useful and life saving for his family, before the assistance they were facing food insecurity and he was not able to provide sufficient food for his children.

“I was experiencing very hard days of my life, no one could help me in the community, we consumed all of our food sources, fortunately I was select by OCHR assessment team and now we can have sufficient food at least for a few months”

Assessment results show that there are many other shock affected and poor people like Mr. Wahab who need emergency food support in the severe and cold wither season.

By the end of this interview Mr. Wahab was very happy and thankful for AHF/OCHR food intervention and requested continued food supplies to their community.

Unemployed and unable to work, Ali Jan’s family faces critical challenges in meeting their basic needs. He shared, “The economic collapse, current drought, and prolonged conflict have created significant hardships for my household. We lack essentials such as food, heaters, clothing, and blankets. As a former farmer, the drought has devastated our agricultural inputs, making it impossible to sustain our family or meet basic needs. With winter approaching, our immediate needs include winterization supplies like heaters, clothing, and blankets.”

The OCHR, with funding from the AHF, is implemented a winterization response in five districts of Badghis province, including Bala Murghab. During a door-to-door assessment, Ali Jan was fortunately selected for in-cash assistance by the project team.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Ali Jan, stated, “I am very grateful to OCHR and AHF for selecting us for assistance. The project team interviewed us and visited our home. We have received $200 for heating materials, $74 for clothing, and $57 for blankets.”

OCHR, with AHF funding, implemented the Emergency Winterization Response for affected people in Jawand, Qadis, Muqur, Bala Murghab, and Ab Kamari districts of Badghis province. Through this project, OCHR provided cash for heating ($200 per household) to 1,707 affected households across five districts (Jawand: 360 households, Qadis: 400 households, Muqur: 197 households, Bala Murghab: 400 households, Ab Kamari: 350 households). Additionally, 1,352 of the most vulnerable households (Jawand: 285 households, Qadis: 317 households, Muqur: 156 households, Bala Murghab: 317 households, Ab Kamari: 277 households) were selected for further assistance with cash for winter clothing ($74 per family) and winter blankets ($57 per household) to enhance their resilience against the harsh winter.

Ali Jan stated, “The Winterization Support improved my household’s access to emergency non-food items in a timely manner. We now have heating materials, clothing for my children, and blankets. I am very happy with the assistance and thank OCHR and AHF for providing the needed support to the vulnerable and affected population.”

Emergency Winterization In-kind Food Response in Nuristan Province. https://ochr.org.af/emergency-winterization-in-kind-food-response-in-nuristan-province/ https://ochr.org.af/emergency-winterization-in-kind-food-response-in-nuristan-province/#respond Mon, 15 Apr 2024 11:32:12 +0000 https://ochr.org.af/?p=2836 Provision of emergency in-kind food packages to 4000 shock affected IPC 3 and 4 households specifically 2400 in Kamdesh and 1600 in Barg-e-Matal districts of Nuristan province.

The specific food response was funded by UN-OCHA (AHF) in eastern Nuristan province and it was transparently and successfully implemented by OCHR FSAC team.

After this food intervention based on eye witnessed results thousands of children, elderly men, women and people with disabilities were rescued from cold wave impact in the severe cold weather.

Noor Ahmad one of the beneficiaries from Awla Gul village in Barg-e-Matal district stated: “Our community is poor and facing sever food insecurity, this kind of assistance is a crucial need of our people, hopefully this food assistance will save our children and elderly men and women from hunger and malnutrition”.

This initiative was funded by UN-OCHA (AHF), targeted 600 households in Kamdesh and 400 households in Barg-e-Matal districts.

The program, successfully carried out by OCHR FSAC team with full transparency, provided essential resources to protect livestock from the harsh winter weather.  The intervention, resulted in the rescue of thousands of animals, effectively mitigating the negative impact of the cold wave.  The success of this program is evident in the positive results observed on the ground.

Mirafzal one of the project beneficiaries from Nangal village of Kamdesh district added about this assistance: “We are pleased and very happy for this specific livestock assistance, definitely it will cause rescue our livestock from hunger in the cold season and can enhance the family income of our community”.
