Emergency Winterization Response for Affected People in Jawand, Qadis, Muqur, Bala Murghab & Ab Kamari districts of Badghis Province

Ali Jan, a 69-year-old elder, is the head of a large family of 25 members living in Panirak village, Bala Murghab district. Unemployed and unable to work, Ali Jan’s family faces critical challenges in meeting their basic needs. He shared, “The economic collapse, current drought, and prolonged conflict have created significant hardships for my household. We lack essentials such as food, heaters, clothing, and blankets. As a former farmer, the drought has devastated our agricultural inputs, making it impossible to sustain our family or meet basic needs. With winter approaching, our immediate needs include winterization supplies like heaters, clothing, and blankets.”

The OCHR, with funding from the AHF, is implemented a winterization response in five districts of Badghis province, including Bala Murghab. During a door-to-door assessment, Ali Jan was fortunately selected for in-cash assistance by the project team.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Ali Jan, stated, “I am very grateful to OCHR and AHF for selecting us for assistance. The project team interviewed us and visited our home. We have received $200 for heating materials, $74 for clothing, and $57 for blankets.”

OCHR, with AHF funding, implemented the Emergency Winterization Response for affected people in Jawand, Qadis, Muqur, Bala Murghab, and Ab Kamari districts of Badghis province. Through this project, OCHR provided cash for heating ($200 per household) to 1,707 affected households across five districts (Jawand: 360 households, Qadis: 400 households, Muqur: 197 households, Bala Murghab: 400 households, Ab Kamari: 350 households). Additionally, 1,352 of the most vulnerable households (Jawand: 285 households, Qadis: 317 households, Muqur: 156 households, Bala Murghab: 317 households, Ab Kamari: 277 households) were selected for further assistance with cash for winter clothing ($74 per family) and winter blankets ($57 per household) to enhance their resilience against the harsh winter.

Ali Jan stated, “The Winterization Support improved my household’s access to emergency non-food items in a timely manner. We now have heating materials, clothing for my children, and blankets. I am very happy with the assistance and thank OCHR and AHF for providing the needed support to the vulnerable and affected population.”
